FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The French bulldog found badly malnourished in Fort Lauderdale is fighting for her life.

She’s sleeping, hooked up to pumps, drips and monitors at Veterinary Emergency Group at 1620 N. Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale after initially being cared for by the iHeart Animal Rescue.

iHeart’s Cindy Mucciaccio and Cheryl Marrone named the dog “Miracle” because that was their hope for her health.

“Right now, she’s improving,” said Dr. Enio Sanmarti. “All of her values are getting better. We’re pumping a lot of fluids.”

Miracle was found in the bushes outside the Walgreens located along West Broward Boulevard near Interstate 95.

Sanmarti said after treating her since Saturday, her sodium levels are finally getting back to normal.

“We’re giving her water with sugar on this pump and then just having the maintenance for her fluids,” he explained

iHeart Animal Rescue took on the effort of finding care for the starved dog.

“I’ve seen emaciated dogs before, but this was by far one of the worst I’ve seen,” said Mucciaccio.

Sanmarti said Miracle has been seizure-free for about 24 hours.

“She wants to eat, but you know poor little girl is a bag of bones,” he said.

Mucciaccio said she can’t believe someone would do this to an animal, and while she’s so relieved Miracle seems to be getting better, they need more donations so she can keep getting the treatment she needs to recover.

Sanmarti said a typical course of treatment for a malnourished dog takes about seven days, treatment that comes with a hefty price tag.

“Donate so we can keep her here longer,” said Mucciaccio.
