KENDALL, Fla. — A 58-year-old woman from southwest Miami-Dade was arrested Thursday after being accused of stealing nearly $2,000 worth of merchandise from a popular makeup store in Kendall on two separate occasions earlier this year, investigators said.
According to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, at about 1:21 p.m. on Feb. 28, Dania Rodriguez-Ortiz entered a Sephora, located at 8500 SW 88th St., grabbed about $850 worth of skin care and makeup products, placed them in her purse, and left without paying.
Deputies said the entire incident was captured on surveillance video, and she was later identified by name and date of birth.
They said a second incident occurred on March 4, at about 4:23 p.m., when Rodriguez-Oritz allegedly returned to the same store and selected about $1,059 worth of similar items.
The report states that she placed the merchandise in her purse, then went to the register and paid for one makeup item before leaving without paying for the rest.
That incident was also captured on surveillance video, according to authorities.
Jail records show Rodriguez-Ortiz is facing two counts of third-degree grand theft.
As of Thursday afternoon, she was being held on a $2,500 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
