OPA-LOCKA, Fla. — First responders in Miami-Dade County rushed to a large fire on Monday afternoon.
It sparked around 5 p.m. at a junkyard located in the area of Northwest 135t h Street and Cairo Lane in Opa-locka.
Authorities began upgrading the fire soon after beginning to fight the flames, with the blaze eventually being considered a five-alarm fire.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said wind pushed fire and embers into a second junkyard and additional business in the area.
Additionally, officials said they evacuated nearby apartment buildings out of an abundance of caution.
“To be honest, I have a sense of fear,” said Opa-locka resident Mimi Pierre. “I don’t live too far and I’m scared. If I lived here, I would start packing my bags.”
No injuries have been reported in the fire, authorities said.
There has been no word on what caused the fire to ignite.
