FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — First responders in Broward County held what they called a large-scale emergency response training exercise on Wednesday morning.
It took place at Chase Stadium located at 1350 NW 55th St. in Fort Lauderdale, beginning around 9 a.m. and lasting until the early afternoon.
According to officials, the drill simulated an emergency in which multiple victims were exposed to hazardous materials, specifically a dangerous chemical substance, following a drone attack.
Authorities said around two dozen volunteers were brought in to participate as simulated victims of the attack.
Agencies participating in the drill included Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, Hollywood Fire Rescue, Sunrise Fire Rescue, Pompano Beach Fire Rescue, Oakland Park Fire Rescue, Coconut Creek Fire Rescue and Tamarac Fire Rescue, per FLFR.
Officials made sure to stress that while there may be increased visibility of emergency vehicles in the area, there was no threat to the public at any time.
