Sunrise police said officers responded around 12:18 a.m. to reports of gunfire on Sunrise Lakes Boulevard near Pine Island Road and Oakland Park Boulevard.

Police told Local 10’s Saira Anwer that when officers arrived, they found a man dead at the scene.

Residents told investigators the victim was an older man, approximately 70 years old, though police have not yet confirmed his identity.

Police said a suspect was taken into custody shortly after the shooting.

They said preliminary information indicates the incident appears to be isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

At the scene, a Local 10 News crew observed Sunrise police detaining a man. The man identified himself as the caretaker of the victim, though it was not immediately clear whether he is facing charges.

Investigators were also seen at a second scene in Dania Beach near a purple Chevrolet sedan.

Police have not confirmed whether the two scenes are connected, but investigators are working to determine if the vehicle is linked to the shooting or the suspect’s apprehension.

Authorities have not released the names of the victim or the suspect.

No other details about the shooting were immediately released.

Anyone with information on either case is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
