HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — The FIFA World Cup has reached the Round of 16, and the United States was hoping to do something spectacular.

The U.S. played Belgium on Monday in Seattle, with the winner reaching the World Cup quarterfinals.

For the U.S., it would have meant just the second trip to the Round of 8 ever.
