OPA-LOCKA, Fla. — A man was rushed to a hospital Tuesday afternoon after he was shocked by a live electrical wire while performing yard work in the backyard of a home in Opa-locka, authorities said.
According to Opa-locka police, the incident happened in the 1300 block of Sharar Avenue.
Police said officers responded to the scene and found the victim in the backyard, suffering from “severe electrical shock.”
“Officers immediately initiated life-saving first aid measures until Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel arrived on scene and assumed advanced medical care,” the OLPD said in a news release.
The victim was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he remains in critical condition, police confirmed.
Police said the incident appears to be an “accidental electrocution,” however the OLPD is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The Opa-locka Police Department extends its thoughts and prayers to the victim and his family during this difficult time,” the OLPD stated in the news release.
