WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump announced Tuesday night that he ordered a blockade of sanctioned oil tankers.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump targeted Nicolás Maduro and his supporters in Venezuela.
“The illegitimate Maduro Regime is using Oil from these stolen Oil Fields to finance themselves, Drug Terrorism, Human Trafficking, Murder, and Kidnapping,” Trump wrote.
Trump also accused the Maduro regime of stealing assets from the U.S. and engaging in terrorism, drug smuggling, and human trafficking.
The U.S. military seized a sanctioned oil tanker last week off Venezuela’s coast.
The announcement comes after State Secretary Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth briefed lawmakers on the U.S. military’s recent strikes at sea.
Also on Tuesday, the Trump administration expanded a travel ban to Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan, and Syria. Also, the State Department declared the “Clan del Golfo,” Colombia’s largest drug cartel, a foreign terrorist organization.
Trump recently issued a warning to Colombia’s left-wing President Gustavo Petro, who was sanctioned in October.
Petro is “going to have himself some big problems if he doesn’t wise up,” Trump said.
