MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Polls opened on Sunday for the Colombian presidential runoff election, with polling locations open in South Florida for the Colombian diaspora to cast their ballots.
Voters have the choice between liberal candidate Iván Cepeda, endorsed by sitting President Gustavo Petro, and right-winger Abelardo de la Espriella, who has the backing of President Donald Trump.
De la Espriella also has the backing of several conservative elected officials in South Florida, who turned a “get out the vote” rally using official resources into what sounded like a rally for the candidate on Friday.
Polling locations in South Florida included Miami Dade College’s Kendall Campus, the Milander Center in Hialeah and Cypress Bay High School in Weston.
Polls are open until 4 p.m. Sunday, with about 130,000 people in South Florida eligible to vote.
