U.S. Coast Guard search for Lynette Hooker continues in Bahamas

U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Service seizes sailboat during criminal investigation

ABACO, The Bahamas — The search for a 55-year-old Michigan woman who vanished in the Bahamas while traveling with her 58-year-old husband continued on Thursday, as U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Service special agents were investigating the case.

Brian and Lynette Hooker, who were married for about 25 years and lived in Onsted, documented their adventures on their 46-foot “Soulmate” sailboat as “The Sailing Hookers” on YouTube and Instagram.

On April 5, Brian Hooker reported his wife had vanished after she fell overboard from a small dinghy during bad weather on April 4 between Hope Town and Elbow Cay.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force arrested him on April 8 in Abaco. Brian Hooker “denies any wrongdoing” and has been cooperating with authorities, Attorney Terrel Butler, who was representing him, told The Associated Press in a statement after the arrest.

The RBPF reported releasing him on April 13.

On May 14, the USCGIS in Miami announced that the “Soulmate” sailboat had been seized about 40 nautical miles off the coast of Melbourne, Fla., as “part of an active criminal investigation.”

CNN reported on Wednesday that investigators found new clues in GPS data.

On Thursday, Fox News shared photographs of a U.S. Coast Guard team of divers searching the water off The Abaco Inn in Hope Town, and CBS News reported the Coast Guard had also seized the dinghy.
