The largest private island in the Bahamas is going up for sale. The 730-acre undeveloped island known as St. Andrews or Little Ragged Island is a deep-pocketed developer’s dream. The island is listed for $19.5 million but there is no minimum bid. It’s on sale through real estate company Concierge Auctions. Bidding opens March 26 and closes March 31.
Canadian man pleads guilty to smuggling migrants to Miami
MIAMI – Sri Kajamukam Chelliah met with migrants from Sri Lanka in Haiti, and traveled by boat with them to Turks and Caicos Islands, the Bahamas, and to Miami, federal authorities said. Chelliah, 55, also known as Richie, worked with human smugglers to arrange the migrants’ stay at a hotel in Port-au-Prince, and to board a sloop sailboat with about 154 migrants, prosecutors said. Chelliah, a Canadian national, served a year in prison in Turks and Caicos. Acting Assistant Attorney General Nicholas L. McQuaid released a statement accusing Chelliah of jeopardizing national security for financial gain. AdHomeland Security Investigations Miami investigated the case with the help of HSI Human Smuggling Unit and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

A U.S. Coast Guard crew found the woman and two men on Anguilla Cay, during a routine patrol on Monday near the southeast extremity of Cay Sal Bank. Coast Guard pilot spots castaways who had been stranded on an uninhabited island for 33 days. Castaways survive in uninhabited Bahamian island for 33 daysDougherty said the trio had been stranded there for 33 days after their boat capsized in rough waters and they were able to swim to the island. On Wednesday evening, the survivors were detainees at the ICE Broward Transitional Center in Pompano Beach.

MIAMI – The U.S. Coast Guard found a woman and two men stranded on an uninhabited Bahamian island, between Key West and Cuba. According to a news release from the Coast Guard, a Coast Guard Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry first spotted the trio waving a makeshift flag while they were on routine patrol Monday. The aircrew dropped them food, water and a radio so they could speak with them while a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 helicopter crew was deployed to the scene. Coast Guard pilot spots castaways who had been stranded on an uninhabited island for 33 days. An Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew has dropped a radio, food and water.
After 84-hour search, Coast Guard suspends search for 20 people on boat from Bahamas
PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended the search for 29-foot boat missing between the Bahamas and south Florida that didn’t arrive to its destination. Coast Guard District Seven received a report Tuesday that a blue and white 29-foot Mako Cuddy Cabin vessel, last known to be departing Bimini, Bahamas on Monday did not arrive as expected to its destination of Lake Worth. Feds warn Americans to avoid all travel to Bahamas
MIAMI – Federal authorities are warning travelers to avoid going to The Bahamas due to coronavirus pandemic-related conditions. The U.S. Department of State’s “reconsider travel” advisory on Monday follows the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s warning on Saturday asking Americans to “avoid all travel” to the Bahamas.
