Tropical naptime to continue

The only X on the board is a non-tropical low-pressure system well east of the Bahamas. There’s a very slight chance it could briefly evolve into some sort of a tropical system over the next day or so, so the National Weather Service continues to point it out.

The tropics are taking a nap, but will they wake up?

The large area of disturbed weather east of the Bahamas is from a non-tropical low-pressure system with a robust upper-level disturbance. It’s under strong upper-level winds and will get swept out to sea in the next couple of days.

Hurricane season is back on pause as Caribbean systems fade

We still have two X's on the board, but neither of them is expected to amount to anything significant.

Tropical system moving over Haiti with another on its heels. A hurricane in Pacific could cross into U.S.

Forecasters are watching two tropical disturbances in the Atlantic, one of which is passing over Haiti Tuesday and is expected to reach the southeastern Bahamas by midweek.

sun-sentinel.com

There’s an uptick in activity in the tropics with two disturbances located east of the Caribbean

Activity in the tropics is on the rise again, with forecasters monitoring two areas east of the Caribbean for potential development as a third peters out off the North Carolina coast.

sun-sentinel.com

The tropics are quiet except for a weak system north of the Bahamas

The system north of the Bahamas and about 200 miles off the Central Florida coast is just a minor empty swirl of clouds.

Tropical development is unlikely this week, but watching off the Southeast coast to be sure

The tropics have gone amazingly quiet. The large area of disturbed weather extending from the Caribbean across the southern Bahamas into the Atlantic is being caused by a weak, elongated low-pressure system enhanced by a dip in the jet steam.

No sign of development but watching the Bahamas disturbance

It’s an elongated area of low pressure at the surface being enhanced by a sharp dip in the jet stream that extends all the way into the Caribbean. The dip is pulling tropical moisture north and is enhancing the elongated disturbance.

There’s a new system near the Bahamas to keep an eye on

The National Hurricane Center is making note of a broad area of disturbed weather over the southern Bahamas.

Small plane goes off runway at Fort Lauderdale airport

Officials said the plane had issues with its landing gear, causing the aircraft to skid off the runway.

Category 4 Hurricane Sam is turning to the north well away from the islands

Hurricane Sam is a classic, super-intense hurricane. Thankfully, it will clearly turn north well away from the Caribbean islands and well east of Florida and the Bahamas. Bermuda will have to watch it as the storm approaches that island toward the end of the week.

New systems are trying to develop on both sides of the Atlantic

The disturbance we have been watching east of the Bahamas is getting slightly more organized. Tropical Disturbance #1 has a decent chance to eventually become a named storm, but it’s in a competition with Tropical Disturbance #2 on the other side of the Atlantic to see which one gets named first.
