Humane Society of Broward seeks furever home for Milo, other furry friends The Humane Society of Broward is seeking a "furever" home for Milo, other furry friends.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A cuddly 8-week-old puppy named Milo is looking for his forever home at the Humane Society of Broward.

The young pup has already captured hearts at the shelter, weighing about 10 pounds with a likely adult size of at least 50 pounds. His short legs suggest he may be part basset hound or beagle.

Cherie Wachter of the Humane Society of Broward said Milo, like many puppies, needs guidance on what to chew and consistent training, including potty training and learning proper behavior.

“He is just cute and cuddly and ready to find his forever family,” Wachter said.

Milo is best suited for a family with the time and patience to devote to a puppy, Wachter said. A well-mannered older dog in the home can help teach Milo, she added.

In addition to puppies, the shelter also has adult dogs and other animals available for adoption.

One of them is a 4-year-old guinea pig named Cupcake, who was recently spayed and enjoys sitting in laps and eating apples. Wachter said guinea pigs are social and do well with another guinea pig as a companion, and the shelter waives adoption fees for a second pet.

The VCA Walk for the Animals, Broward Humane Society’s largest fundraising event of the year, takes place on Feb. 21 at Las Olas Intracoastal Promenade Park. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m., and the walk begins at 9 a.m.

HSBC is prepared for the current cold snap, with plenty of blankets for animals, and the adoption kennels open at 11 a.m. Residents interested in Milo or other animals can visit humanebroward.com.

Viewers can also visit Wachter’s fundraising page to donate to the Walk for the Animals, with all contributions helping to support the needs of animals at the shelter.
