MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Carlos Casas said he was getting threats over a video showing him shouting and kicking his five dogs during fireworks on New Year’s Eve in Miami-Dade County.
Casas said the “very-well taken care of” dogs were “out of control,” and his goal was “to get them in control.”
A witness who recorded the video wished to remain anonymous. Some of Casas’s neighbors and social media users said they were upset.
“It’s not abuse; it’s just correcting the dog,” Casas said. “And, it was proven by the investigation that took place.”
Lazaro Gonzalez, an animal activist, said the video prompted him to file a report with the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office.
“No dog deserves that,” Gonzalez said about the behavior Casas displayed on the witness video.
Records show Gonzalez’s report triggered an investigation.
“We find the video, obviously, horrific,” Gabriella Dominguez, of Miami-Dade Animal Services, said.
Dominguez said a M-DCSO deputy responded to Casas’s house during the investigation and did not find any injuries on the pets. Dominguez said witnesses need to come forward.
“If we had witness cooperation, then we can confiscate these animals,” Dominguez said.
