Seasoned pup Star seeks ‘furever’ home ahead of VCA Walk for the Animals event

Humane Society of Broward seeks permanent home for loving senior dog, other furry friends The Humane Society of Broward County is seeking a "furever" home for Star, a senior dog, as well as other furry friends.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Star, an 11-year-old dog with a soft coat and a sweet disposition, is looking for a loving home after being surrendered when her owner had to downsize.

Despite her age, Star is active, potty-trained, and gets along well with other dogs — and even seemed unfazed by cats at the shelter.

“She wants to be the shining star of your family,” said Cherie Wachter of the Humane Society of Broward County. “She loves car rides, her bed, toys, and treats. She’s a perfect Velcro dog — she’ll follow you everywhere and loves to give kisses.”

Star’s story isn’t uncommon, Wachter said. She was given up because her owner’s new living situation didn’t allow her to keep a dog, and she struggled when left alone.

HSBC hopes Star will find a home soon, just in time for its largest fundraiser of the year, the VCA Walk for the Animals, scheduled on Feb. 21 at the Las Olas Intercoastal Promenade Park in Fort Lauderdale.

The one-mile walk is optional, and some pets, like Star, may enjoy being pushed in a stroller. Proceeds from the event support shelter programs and care for animals in need.

Those interested in adopting Star can visit HSBC’s website to complete a pre-adoption application. The adoption kennels open daily at 11 a.m. The shelter is located a block west of I-95 on Griffin Road.

Viewers can also visit Wachter’s fundraising page to donate to the Walk for the Animals, with all contributions helping to support the needs of animals at the shelter.
