MIAMI — Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo has made countless contributions to the South Florida community, but his latest donation came with a personal twist — and a practical impact.
On Wednesday, Adebayo visited the SEED School of Miami to give away mattresses to students, a gesture that stemmed from a simple question he posed during a Q&A session.
“Growing up, I slept on a twin bed. And my mom had a queen bed, so ... What I would say I got between about 14 when I started to outgrow my twin bed and you know this is why I love my mom so much so she switched beds with me,” Adebayo said.
“And that’s a story you know y’all are just hearing now but she switched beds with me so I could sleep in the queen bed so my feet wouldn’t hang over,” he added.
The act of giving took on deeper meaning as Adebayo reflected on his own childhood.
Now an Olympic gold medalist and NBA All-Star, Adebayo said he hasn’t forgotten those early struggles.
Providing mattresses, he added, is about more than comfort — it’s about showing kids that someone understands where they’re coming from.
“This is one way I can give back,” he said. “So they’re not sleeping on springs or tossing and turning all night. It matters.”
In Miami, that message continues to resonate — and so does Adebayo’s commitment to giving back.
