According to multiple reports, the Dolphins have brought in Troy Aikman as a consultant in the GM search.

The reports state that Aikman’s role is not permanent, and while he has previously expressed interest in becoming a general manager, he is not considered a candidate.

The decision to part ways with general manager Chris Grier on Oct. 31 followed a 2–7 start to the season. Team owner Stephen Ross chose to retain coach Mike McDaniel.

“There is a lot of football left to play and we all need to fight even harder,” Ross said a day after parting ways with Grier. “I have always been and remain committed to building a winning team that consistently competes for championships. Our performance on the field and our team-building process have not been good enough. There are no excuses. You deserve a championship-caliber team you can be proud of.”

During his tenure, Grier oversaw multiple coaching changes and several major roster decisions, including drafting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and acquiring stars Tyreek Hill and Jalen Ramsey.

The Dolphins have not won a playoff game since the 2000 season, the longest active postseason drought in the NFL. This season marked the second consecutive year that Miami has missed the playoffs.

Miami (7-9) will face the AFC East Champion New England Patriots (13-3) on Sunday to close the 2025 season. Kick off from Gillette Stadium is set for 4:25 p.m.
