MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins have reportedly found the successor to Chris Grier.

The team is finalizing a deal to hire Green Bay Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan as its next general manager, according to sources.

The move comes just over 24 hours after the Dolphins decided to part ways with head coach Mike McDaniel following four seasons.

Sullivan replaces Grier, who was fired on Halloween after spending 25 seasons with the franchise.

Sullivan began his career in Green Bay as a training camp intern and was later promoted to roles including director of college scouting and co-director of player personnel.

Once becoming vice president of player personnel, Sullivan worked closely with Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst.

Sullivan will be tasked with several responsibilities, including hiring a new head coach and determining the future of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Moving on from the former Alabama standout will cost Miami a pretty penny.

Cutting Tagovailoa before June 1 would result in a $99.2 million dead cap hit next season – the largest in NFL history. Releasing him after June 1 would spread that dead cap hit across two seasons, with 67.2 million hitting in 2026, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Sullivan is the son of Jerry Sullivan, a longtime college and NFL coach who served as the Dolphins’ wide receivers coach in 2004.

The three other candidates for the Dolphins’ vacant general manager role were former interim GM Champ Kelly; Los Angeles Chargers assistant GM Chad Alexander; and San Francisco 49ers director of scouting and football operations Josh Williams.
