MIAMI — Opening Day has arrived, bringing renewed optimism as the Miami Marlins are set to host the Colorado Rockies on Friday night at loanDepot Park.

While the Marlins began their season earlier this week on the road, Friday marks their home opener — a three-game series against Colorado and a chance for fans to celebrate the start of a new season.

There is a sense of optimism surrounding the team after a 79-83 finish last year, when Miami remained in postseason contention into late September. Much of that success was driven by the development of its young core, many of whom return this season.

The Marlins also added new pieces in the field and bolstered bullpen depth during the offseason, hoping to take a step forward.

Second-year manager Clayton McCullough emphasized the significance of Opening Day, calling it a moment players should appreciate.

“I’m as excited about tomorrow as I was for my first one,” he said. “I hope that never changes. It takes a lot to get to the major leagues and stay here, and having a chance to be on an Opening Day roster is a big deal.”

Starting pitcher Sandy Alcántara is set to make his sixth Opening Day start.

After returning from Tommy John surgery last season and working his way back into form, Alcántara said he now feels fully healthy and confident entering the year.

“It’s always an honor to be out there for the first game,” he said. “Tomorrow is a great day for me, for the organization, and for the fans.”

Fans attending the game are encouraged to arrive early, with pregame activities beginning in the East Plaza before first pitch.

The game is scheduled to begin at 7:10 p.m., with the stadium roof expected to be open for what is forecast to be a clear evening.
