This Week in South Florida: Shlomo Danzinger and Charles Burkett

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – In many ways, Surfside is a microcosm of South Florida cities, featuring the same issues, like development, traffic, rising flood waters and quality of life.

Elections in Surfside are Tuesday, and among them, the mayor and former mayor are in a rematch that has become more about personality than policy.

More than two years have passed since the catastrophe of the condo collapse that put Surfside in worldwide headlines.

The news out of Surfside now is about the fights, cursing, personal attacks and just so much drama.

Both candidates appeared on This Week in South Florida for their only television debate.

They are current Mayor Shlomo Danziger, who is running for re-election and a second term, and his opponent, Charles Burkett, Surfside’s former mayor, twice elected, who lost two years ago by less than a few dozen votes.

The full debate can be seen at the top of this page.
