Dog’s case remains pending in Broward about 3 months after attack
WILTON MANORS, Fla. – Some residents in a Wilton Manors neighborhood said they are living in fear that authorities could return a dangerous dog. Video shows the attack that prompted the case in October. Maria Zapata was walking her Australian silky terrier named Wufus, when the dog, which looks like an American Pit Bull Terrier or a mix, attacked them. And although animal control confiscated the dog, Wilton Manors code enforcement officers said the case remains open. “They won’t release that dog until this case is closed, so I don’t know what the outcome is going to be,” Wilton Manors resident Don Proietto said.

Easy, delicious treats you can make for your dog at home
There's no better feeling than when our four-legged friends do something good and we can reward them with a treat for that nice behavior -- but sometimes, those pre-packaged treats can be flavorless, stale, and who knows what's actually inside of them?

Pet owners who fail to walk dogs face $2,700 fine
Justin Sullivan/Getty Images(CNN) - Dog owners could be fined up to $2,700 (AU$4,000) if they don't walk their pets at least once a day under new legislation recognizing animals as sentient beings in the Australian Capital Territory. The Animal Welfare Legislation Amendment Bill, which became law on Thursday, imposes a range of strict penalties in a bid to improve animal welfare. Owners can face heavy on-the-spot fines if they fail to provide basics like shelter, food and water. People who confine dogs for 24 hours must also allow them to move freely for the next two hours or face prosecution. "Modern animal welfare is about considering how an animal is coping both mentally and physically with the conditions in which it lives," ACT City Service Minister Chris Steel, who secured the bill, said in a media release.
Duane 'Dog' Chapman under doctor's care after medical incident
(CNN) - Duane "Dog" Chapman, star of WGN America's "Dog's Most Wanted," is being monitored after a medical incident over the weekend, a representative for the TV star tells CNN. When asked to clarify the nature of Chapman's medical issue, the representative did not immediately respond. Chapman became known to television audiences via "Dog the Bounty Hunter," a reality TV series that aired from 2004-2012. His late wife, Beth Chapman, starred alongside him on both his current and former series until her death in June.
Study: Dogs help owners maintain heart health
Pixabay(CNN) - Dog's aren't just our best friends, they're also good for our health, new research suggests. The latest was this year, in 2019, when researchers again looked at about 2,000 people with no history of heart disease. The researchers compared the cardiovascular health scores of pet owners with those of petless people. But then they compared dog owners with everyone else and found that no matter their age, sex or education level, they benefited the most in terms of cardiovascular health. The study included many factors that determined the health of the heart and arteries, like showing that dog-owners tend to also have a healthier diet than other pet-owners -- thus contributing to a better cardiovascular health.
