Miami mayor says Underline expected to open in coming months

MIAMI City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez toured the progress made on the construction of the Underline Tuesday -- a project that will turn the land below Miamis MetroRail into a 10-mile park spanning from the Miami River to Dadeland South Station. It should be open in the fall, sometime in October, hopefully, Suarez said. The Underline will provide a walkable and bikeable corridor and is being built in eight phases. Construction of Phase 1, which started in December 2018, is what is expected to be completed this fall. When completed, the park will feature not only butterfly gardens and exercise equipment, but also playgrounds, basketball and volleyball courts, soccer fields, picnic areas, dog parks and more.

Malfunction causes 2nd Avenue Bridge in downtown Miami to close

MIAMI - A warning went out to drivers in the city of Miami after a bridge malfunctioned in a busy downtown area. The Southwest 2nd Avenue Bridge, over the Miami River, experienced mechanical difficulties sometime Wednesday morning, according to a Miami-Dade County spokesperson. The bridge remained closed throughout the day while crews worked to repair it. Miami-Dade County announced that the bridge had been repaired and was fully operational just before 5:30 p.m.Detour signs had been posted and commuters were being asked to avoid the area. Turtles found chained together in Miami River

MIAMI - Two living turtles were found chained together Wednesday by a clean-up crew working in the Miami River. Officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were notified after the 4ocean crew discovered the chained turtles underneath an overpass. One of the turtles was trying to swim away while the other was on the rocks. A similar pair of chained turtles carrying voodoo dolls and other religious paraphernalia were rescued in February. 4ocean removed the turtles found in the river Wednesday and brought them to the FWC at a nearby marina.
