PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. Surveillance video from inside the Pembroke Lakes mall shows the scary scene when shots rang out and shoppers began running for their lives. Pembroke Pines Police Department said that on Friday at 2:14 p.m., two men approached Elite Fine Jewelry inside the mall. While inside, one of the suspects began to smash the glass displays while another suspect began to grab jewelry out of the cases. Gabriela Arraiz, who works at Charmed Jewelry, a kiosk inside the mall told Local 10: The guy that works here, he tells me just run, run. Pembroke Pines police said the pair will be charged with armed robbery.

FDLE’s update on probe: 20 officers fire weapons during fatal shooting
MIRAMAR, Fla. – A Florida Highway Patrol trooper and at least 19 law enforcement officers from four different agencies fired their weapons during a recent fatal police-involved shooting in Broward County, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The Dec. 5 police-involved shooting remains under investigation, but the FDLE revealed one of the officers was from the Pembroke Pines Police Department, three officers were from the Miramar Police Department and 15 officers were from the Miami-Dade Police Department. “We have made a tremendous amount of progress on our investigation," Special Agent Troy Walker said about the ongoing probe. Four people died -- including UPS driver Frank Ordonez -- in the Dec. 5 shooting on Miramar Parkway. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has yet to complete the investigation.

Police officer, man hospitalized after incident in Pembroke Pines
PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A police officer and a man were taken to a hospital following a domestic incident in Pembroke Pines, according to the Pembroke Pines Police Department. The man was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital with injuries, but he was forced to be restrained to a gurney by officers. “I have lived here for over 20 years, so I never have seen something like this,” said resident Pablo Powsang. An officer from the Pembroke Pines Police Department was also taken to a hospital with injuries. “Pembroke Pines has been changing a lot because I have been living here since 1986,” Powsang said.

Department pays for officer’s sexual massages to arrest 4 Chinese women for prostitution
The women, who didn’t have a Florida Department of Health license to practice massage therapy, are facing prostitution charges. In the women’s four arrest reports, the officer reported spending nearly $450. The officer reported Huang grabbed his penis and offered oral sex for an extra $20. After the massage, Xin said a “four-hand massage” would be $80 for 30 minutes, the report said. Li, Huang, Xin and Shi face charges of practice without a license and soliciting prostitution.

Veteran police officer remains hospitalized after crash in Pembroke Pines

John Baker, who supervises the Pembroke Pines Police Department's traffic unit, remained hospitalized on Sunday after he was injured in a crash that prompted the shutdown of Sheridan Street at Interstate 75 on Saturday. Baker was riding a police-issued motorcycle and was on duty when he was involved in the crash about 7 a.m. Saturday at 14800 Sheridan St., in Pembroke Pines, according to Amanda Conwell, a spokeswoman for the police department. Baker's crash comes a few weeks after a 30-year-old deputy died in a crash. Deputy Benjamin Nimtz died July 21.
Officers arrest 9 students for breaking into school in Pembroke Pines

Pembroke Pines Police Department officers believe the group broke into the school at 12800 Taft Street about 11:50 p.m. on Monday. "When officers arrived, the suspects were seen running through the halls and courtyard," said Amanda Conwell, a spokeswoman for the Pembroke Pines Police Department. Deputies in a Broward Sheriff's Office helicopter and police dogs from the Miramar and Pembroke Pines police departments participated in the search. The students are facing charges of burglary and trespassing on school grounds.
