Prince's estate undervalued by about $80 million, IRS says

The IRS determined that Prince's estate is worth $163.2 million, overshadowing the $82.3 million valuation submitted by Comerica Bank & Trust, the estate's administrator. Documents show the IRS believes that Prince's estate owes another $32.4 million in federal taxes, roughly doubling the tax bill based on Comerica's valuation, the Star Tribune reported. The IRS also has ordered a $6.4 million "accuracy-related penalty" on Prince's estate, citing a "substantial" undervaluation of assets, documents show. Valuing a large estate, Patrick added, "is way more of an art than a science." A trial could dramatically lengthen the settlement of Prince's estate and generate more legal fees at the expense of Prince's heirs, Patrick said.

Wrongful death claims filed by Prince's family dismissed

Prince's heirs filed a wrongful death lawsuit against a slew of defendants in April 2018, alleging that they had the duty and opportunity to diagnose and treat Prince's addiction and prevent his death, but failed to do so. Claims against Dr. Michael Schulenberg a doctor who treated Prince in the weeks before his death were permanently dismissed in November, along with claims against Schulenberg's former employer. Prince's family says Kornfeld had a duty to advise Prince's associates that he should be immediately admitted for treatment. The bodyguard, Kirk Johnson, was deposed during the wrongful death litigation, but refused to answer nearly all of the questions, according to a transcript. Court filings several months after Prince's death suggested the estate was worth around $200 million before taxes.

Jennifer Lopez and Shakira Headlining Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show in Miami

This year, it seems like the NFL got the memo about choosing halftime talent that's representative of its host city. Jennifer Lopez and Shakira both announced via Twitter this afternoon they will coheadline the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. In fact, both performers corresponded to the late-'90s, early-'00s so-called Latin Invasion, which was initially thought to be a musical fad but instead wound up foreshadowing the Latin music explosion of this decade. Lopez celebrated the opening of her latest movie, Hustlers, in Miami at David Grutmans Papi Steak earlier this month. In 2007, Prince took his extremely phallic guitar shadow to Super Bowl XLI and sang "Purple Rain" as the skies opened up over Dolphin Stadium.

Second man arrested in connection to Mac Miller's overdose death

An Arizona man has become the second person arrested on drug charges in the investigation of the overdose death of rapper Mac Miller, authorities said. Police gave no details on the connection, but said the arrest was the result of the investigation into the overdose death of Miller, who died one year ago in his Los Angeles home. In this October 2, 2016, file photo, Mac Miller performs in Flushing, New York. Prince died in 2016 when he took counterfeit pills laced with fentanyl that looked like a generic version of the painkiller Vicodin.
