Protests in Coral Springs and Sunrise as residents rally to take a stand
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. Two students launched a spirited demonstration in Coral Springs on Tuesday afternoon, and another group marched in Sunrise near the Sawgrass Mills mall. Mahek Manjiani and Shayan Shivji, teenage cousins of Pakistani descent, organized the peaceful protest in Coral Springs that joins the nationwide movement after the death of George Floyd. Coral Springs mayor and the citys first black commissioner were there. Sawgrass Mills and other malls reopen to eager shoppers
SUNRISE, Fla. – Eager locals were ready to get back to the business of shopping Monday. At Sawgrass Mills, the largest mall in Broward County, cars are in the parking lot and people were waiting outside for the doors to open at 11 a.m. Monday. Sunrise expects big crowds, traffic gridlock for unprecedented Trump rally
Sunrise is expecting heavy traffic near the arena and the nearby Sawgrass Mills mall with tens of thousands of people expected to attend, according to an advisory issued by the city. The Sawgrass Expressway near the arena will be closed to commercial trucks during the afternoon rush hour, and drivers can expect significant delays with traffic being merged into one lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

SUNRISE, Fla. - FBI agents are searching for a man who was captured on surveillance video robbing a Foot Locker store inside the Sawgrass Mills mall in Sunrise. The FBI released video of the robbery Tuesday after months of trying to identify the person in the video. According to FBI spokesman Jim Marshall, the Hobbs Act robbery occurred around 10 p.m. April 22. The Sunrise Police Department, the South Florida Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force and the FBI are investigating the robbery. Anyone with information about the robber's identity is asked to call the FBI at 754-703-2000 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
Firefighters respond to brush fire close to homes in Plantation
PLANTATION, Fla. – Plantation firefighters were working to extinguish a brush fire Monday afternoon near a few homes in the area surrounding Sawgrass Mills. The smoke was coming from a grassy section near the intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and Hiatus Road. It was steps away from the Plantation Fire Department Station 96 at 11050 West Sunrise Boulevard. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control.
