Aldi to buy 400 Winn-Dixie, Harveys groceries in Southern US
Discount grocer Aldi said Wednesday it's acquiring 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys supermarkets in the Southern U.S. Under a proposed merger agreement, Aldi will acquire all outstanding shares of Jacksonville, Florida-based Southeastern Grocers Inc., the parent company of Winn-Dixie and Harveys.
Publix and Winn-Dixie limiting some Thanksgiving items
Publix, which operates nearly 1,300 stores across seven states in the Southeast, and Winn-Dixie, with stores in five Southern states, put some restrictions in place due to ongoing supply chain issues and the increased holiday demand, officials said.

Racketeering ring steals baby items worth nearly 85K from Florida grocery stores, sheriff says
POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A racketeering ring whose retail thefts amounted to almost $85,000 in items such as baby formula, diapers, and energy drinks has been arrested. According to Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Publix, Winn-Dixie and Walmart stores, in 18 counties in central Florida were the targets of the group. Five of the suspects (boosters) would enter the stores, and place dozens of cans of baby formula into reusable shopping bags. Each “shopping trip” amounted to a range between $350 to 900 worth of stolen items. Detectives continued their investigation and surveillance of where the stolen items were taken after the thefts.
Miami officers shop for vulnerable seniors during coronavirus pandemic

State inspector orders Fort Lauderdale Winn-Dixie to stop using deli equipment
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - A state inspector with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services ordered a Fort Lauderdale Winn-Dixie to stop using all deli processing equipment after roaches were found during an inspection. The store is north of Oakland Park Boulevard at the Galt Ocean Mile. According to the food safety inspection report, a reinspection will take place before Nov. 11. The report states that in addition to all processing equipment within the deli, the store must also stop use of its wing bar and open deli hot case. All areas where the roach infestation was found must be cleaned, sanitized and chemically treated by someone who is licensed.

William Shook is accused of putting a knife to a Winn-Dixie employee's neck in Big Pine Key. BIG PINE KEY, Fla. - A homeless man is accused of holding a knife to the neck of a Winn-Dixie employee in the Florida Keys. Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the Winn-Dixie in Big Pine Key. Deputies said Shook appeared to be intoxicated. The victim didn't know what prompted Shook to hold a knife to his neck.

AVENTURA, Fla. - One man is dead and another injured after a stabbing incident Sunday outside an Aventura liquor store. Both men were transported to Aventura Hospital after the incident at 10 a.m. in front of the Winn-Dixie at 20355 Biscayne Boulevard. Officials say one of the men later died while the other underwent surgery and is in critical condition. Aventura Police say the three men knew each other and agreed to meet, but did not provide information on what caused the altercation. AVENTURA, Fla. - Police are investigating after two men were stabbed Sunday outside an Aventura liquor store. Both men were transported to Aventura Hospital after the incident in front of the Winn-Dixie at 20355 Biscayne Boulevard. Although the conditions of the men are unknown, one was seen being given CPR before being loaded into an ambulance. A third person was detained by police after attempting to flee the scene and crashing his car on the other side of the Promenade Shops shopping plaza.
