MIAMI — Two Miami police motormen were hurt Wednesday morning on the Dolphin Expressway, authorities confirmed.
The crash occurred in the westbound lanes near Northwest 42nd Avenue. Officers responded after reports that an SUV had struck multiple motormen who were working on or near the roadway.
Mike Vega, a spokesperson for the Miami Police Department, said the motormen who were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center are expected to be OK and may have suffered leg and arm injuries.
Authorities confirmed Thursday that both motormen were released from the hospital on Wednesday night.
Vega said two additional motormen who were positioned behind them were not hurt in the crash.
Miami police said a black SUV was believed to be involved; however, investigators said they’re not looking for a vehicle or driver in connection with the crash.
Sky 10 flew over the area as police diverted traffic away from the scene. Traffic was heavily impacted while authorities conducted their investigation. Miami police confirmed that three eastbound lanes of the Dolphin Expressway were temporary closed between Northwest 42nd and 57th avenues.
Details about how the crash happened were not immediately available, and the exact circumstances remain under investigation.
Editor’s note: An MPD spokesperson initially reported that four of the agency’s motormen were hurt in the crash, but later confirmed that only two were hurt.
