The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. near Taft Street in both directions of the Turnpike, involving several vehicles.

A Hollywood Fire Rescue spokesperson said medics evaluated four individuals and transported one to an area hospital with minor injuries. They confirmed that one person was declared dead at the scene.

Traffic cameras captured the aftermath, showing a white Dodge pickup truck with its front end completely crushed and a box truck resting across the center divider.

A massive wrecker was called to remove the damaged vehicles as several state troopers responded.

Traffic was gridlocked for miles in both directions, at one point forcing officials to shut down all lanes.

Vehicles were later seen slowly inching along as crews worked to reopen the highway. Authorities spent hours clearing debris scattered across both sides of the roadway.

FHP officials have not yet released the victim’s age, gender, or identity. They have also not confirmed what caused the collision.
