Up for debate: Are you a warm or cold weather person?

South Florida residents debate heat vs. cold as temperatures dip A sudden cool snap in South Florida has residents debating whether they prefer the region’s signature heat or a brief taste of colder weather.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. — A sudden cool snap in South Florida has residents and visitors debating whether they prefer the region’s signature heat or a brief taste of colder weather.

Temperatures dipped starting on Friday, prompting many locals to pull out jackets and layers. Others, however, continued to embrace shorts and sandals, highlighting the wide range of comfort levels.

Recent research may help explain why some people prefer heat while others seek cooler climates. A study of 2,000 Americans found that personality plays a role: introverts — those who may prefer cats over dogs and texting over phone calls — tend to favor breezy, cooler cities.

Extroverts, by contrast, who thrive on social interactions and group activities, often prefer warmer locations like South Florida’s beaches.

Others noted the small inconveniences of layering in cooler weather but admitted that some enjoy the chance to bundle up. Yet residents from colder states couldn’t help but laugh at South Florida’s mild “cold” temperatures.
