May 17: Moisture, easterly winds bring comfortable temps, rip current risk to South Florida beaches

Caribbean moisture has moved north into South Florida while at the same time high pressure off the Carolina coast is getting us easterly winds.

That means any showers & storms we see during the morning hours will get pushed over toward the west coast in the afternoon. This pattern will continue through much of the work week which could lead to over 5” of rain around Naples but only about an inch here on the east coast so we’ll miss most of the heaviest rainfall this week.

These easterly winds will keep our high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s this week which is comfortable for mid-May. There’s a high risk of rip currents at east coast beaches the next few days so be careful at the beaches.
