Gabrielle became a hurricane Sunday in the Atlantic Ocean, southeast of Bermuda.
As of 5 p.m. Sunday, Gabrielle was about 320 miles southeast of Bermuda and was moving toward the north-northwest near 10 mph.
“A turn more northward is forecast on Monday, followed by a somewhat faster northeastward or east-northeastward motion on Tuesday,” the National Hurricane Center reported. “On the forecast track, the center of Gabrielle is expected to pass east of Bermuda on Monday evening.”
According to the NHC, Gabrielle had maximum sustained winds of 75 mph.
No watches or warnings were in effect, but forecasters said interests in Bermuda should monitor the progress of Gabrielle.
“Additional steady to rapid intensification is forecast over the next day or so, and Gabrielle could become a major hurricane in the early part of this week,” the NHC reported.
