MIAMI — They walked to honor loved ones and to raise critical funds for research, prevention and treatment.
Thousands gathered this past weekend at loanDepot Park in Miami to walk to end Alzheimer’s disease.
“Saturday’s walk was inspirational,” said Bobby Kussell, who walked for his sister living with frontotemporal dementia. “It felt so good to share family stories with so many who attended. Together, we will end this disease.”
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is organized by the Alzheimer’s Association and is the world’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. The walk in Miami was co-emceed by Local 10 Sports Director Will Manso and Local 10 Sports Reporter Kacy Hintz. It raised more than $720,000.
“This walk is so important because it brings our community together to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s and the impact it has on families every day,” said David Chaves Lopez, Director for Walk to End Alzheimer’s Miami.
“By participating in this event, we’re not only funding critical research and treatments, but also helping people recognize the warning signs and understand where to turn for help,” Lopez added. “Awareness is the first step toward earlier diagnosis, better support and, ultimately, a cure.”
The 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s Broward will take place on December 6, at Nova Southeastern University in Davie. Local 10’s Kristi Krueger will emcee the event.
