PINECREST, Fla. — Goya Foods marked its 90th anniversary Thursday with a visit to a Catholic school in Pinecrest featuring Colombian music star Carlos Vives.
About 250 students at St. Louis Covenant School welcomed Vives, who is partnering with Goya during his tour this year.
Some students also donated items to his foundation, Tras La Perla, which works to improve the quality of life in his hometown of Santa Marta, Colombia.
“I wanted to donate because I also have my own foundation. I think it’s really special that he has his own charity, and it feels good and it does good,” eighth-grade student Valeria Astudillo said.
Goya also announced it has donated at least 1 million pounds of food nationwide, along with $50,000 to Tras La Perla through the campaign, to support children, families and cultural programs.
