Dirty Dining: Roaches, Closures, and How You Can File a Complaint

DAVIE, Fla. — A Local 10 viewer captured disturbing video behind Gogiya Korean BBQ in Davie that shows kitchen equipment crawling with roaches.

The footage, taken Monday at the Lincoln Park Davie Shopping Plaza on Stirling Road, shows an employee carrying what appear to be kitchen drain grates with roaches spilling out. The owner is then seen spraying the equipment with bug killer.

When confronted, the owner laughed at first, then claimed he was simply cleaning the grates and insisted the roaches were not inside the kitchen. However, the equipment had just been removed from the cook line area. The restaurant has not been ordered shut by the state.

The video raised an important question from the viewer who recorded it: What should customers do if they witness conditions like this? According to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), consumers can file a complaint online, and inspectors will investigate.

Officials emphasize that complaints should be limited to unsafe or unsanitary conditions such as roaches, rodents, or food safety violations.

The DBPR does not accept complaints related to poor service, slow wait times, or dissatisfaction with food quality.

This week’s inspection records also show several restaurant closures across South Florida:

TJ Kitchen, located at 15327 NW 7th Ave. in Golden Glades, was ordered closed after inspectors found 12 violations. Roaches, both live and dead, were discovered under prep tables, near the cook line, under and behind a bread maker, crawling on shelves, and even in the lobby. A stop sale was issued on two cans of tomato paste that were found open with mold inside. Inspectors also reported car seats, a mattress, and a bed spring stored in the hallway leading to the bathroom.

In Kendall, Jin Jin Chinese, at 15705 SW 56th St. in the Miller West Plaza, was shut down after inspectors documented 24 violations. Live roaches were found under fryers, under a wok, and on top of a water heater. Dead roaches were scattered across the kitchen, including near sinks and light fixtures. Grease-coated walls, soiled vents, and dirty ceilings were also cited. A follow-up inspection still found live and dead roaches inside the restaurant.

At the Southland Mall food court in Cutler Bay, Kelly’s Cajun Grill was closed after 26 violations were recorded. Inspectors documented more than 20 rodent droppings under the soda machine at the front counter, roaches crawling on walls near a sink, and inside a plastic container on the kitchen floor. Food safety violations included rice, beans, fish, and chicken being held at unsafe temperatures. Mall management said it is monitoring the location and has launched an internal review of food court operations. Records show no other food court restaurants were cited during inspections.

TJ Kitchen remains closed. Jin Jin Chinese and Kelly’s Cajun Grill were allowed to reopen following required cleanups and re-inspections. Customers who witness unsanitary conditions are encouraged to report them directly to the Florida DBPR for review.
