According to its website, The Marfan Foundation drives research, education and support to improve outcomes for people living with genetic aortic and vascular conditions.

Marfan Syndrome is one such condition which affects the body’s connective tissue. Connective tissue is what holds all the body’s cells, organs and tissue together.

The foundation and its work has personal significance for WPLG.

Local 10’s CEO and President Bert Medina lives with Marfan Syndrome.

It was only after his mother and uncle passed away from heart complications that Medina first learned about Marfan and was subsequently diagnosed with the condition. After surviving multiple episodes of cardiac arrest, Medina became a life-long advocate for individuals living with the disorder.

“The Marfan Foundation has given me a platform to do just that, and one of the most powerful ways I can be a voice for the people who need it is to fundraise for medical research,” said Medina.

Medina is the board chairman of The Marfan Foundation, and along with Local 10 anchor Nicole Perez, will serve as the honorary chair of the 2026 Walk for Victory.

The event will take place at T.Y. Park in Hollywood. It will kick off at 11 a.m. with a workout followed by the walk at noon.

Local 10 has a team walking at the event. If you’d like to get involved or donate to the cause, visit our Team Top Ten page by clicking here.
