FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — More than 100 people fell ill due to a norovirus outbreak aboard a Caribbean Princess cruise ship that health officials say departed from Fort Lauderdale on April 29.
The cruise ship is scheduled to return to Port Canaveral on Monday.
U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials said 102 passengers and 13 crew members became ill and have since been isolated.
The cruise line also confirmed it disinfected all areas of the ship and increased sanitizing procedures.
“Princess Cruises can confirm that a limited number of individuals reported mild gastrointestinal illness during the April 28 Caribbean Princess voyage from Port Everglades,” the cruise line said in a statement. “We quickly disinfected every area of the ship and added extra sanitizing throughout the voyage. Upon arrival to Port Canaveral on May 11, Caribbean Princess will undergo comprehensive cleaning and disinfection before departing for her next voyage.”
CDC officials say this is the fourth gastrointestinal illness outbreak reported on a cruise ship so far this year.
In March, authorities confirmed that more than 150 people fell ill on a Princess cruise ship that also departed from Port Everglades.
