Florida health officials confirmed 13,720 additional cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, plus another 217 resident deaths as a result of the novel coronavirus.
Florida has now confirmed 1,531,192 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began and 23,613 resident deaths, according to the department of health.
Another 368 non-residents have died within the state, and there have been at least 67,036 resident hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus in Florida since the start of the outbreak.
The White House Coronavirus Task Force said in its latest report that Florida “is in full COVID-19 resurgence, which will drive significant fatalities for many weeks and stress the staffing of the hospital system.”
Deaths verified in the past day include 28 in Miami-Dade County, two in Broward County, one in Monroe County and 26 in Palm Beach County.

At least 774,768 vaccines have been administered in the state, with 72,087 people getting both shots. Miami-Dade has had 94,065 vaccinations, Broward has had 71,169 and Monroe 2,443, according to the latest numbers available.
The statewide positivity rate on yesterday’s testing was 8.63%. It’s the first time in two weeks the statewide positivity dipped below 10%.
