BIG PINE KEY, Fla. – A man died Wednesday night after being beaten with a pair of pliers in a drug store parking lot in the Florida Keys, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Adam Linhardt, a sheriff’s office spokesperson, said deputies responded to the CVS Pharmacy on Big Pine Key early Tuesday morning and found 50-year-old William Shook badly beaten and unresponsive under shopping carts in the store’s parking lot.

Deputies arrested 42-year-old Shane Wilson, pictured above. According to jail records, Wilson lives on the streets of Key West.

Linhardt said detectives with MCSO’s Major Crimes Unit learned that Wilson showed a pair of bloody pliers to multiple witnesses after the assault and told them he beat Shook.

Shook, of Big Pine Key, was in stable, but critical condition at Kendall Regional Medical Center on Tuesday evening before dying from his injuries Wednesday night, Linhardt said.

Wilson now faces a murder charge.
