Fugitive arrested for 3 attempted murders in South Beach

The US Marshals detained Arthur Brooks on Saturday and turned him over to the Miami Gardens Police Department. (MDCR)

MIAMI – Arthur Brooks, a convicted felon, was on probation when he hid behind shrubs and fired his weapon once on Ocean Drive in South Beach, according to the Miami Beach Police Department.

Brooks, who was wearing Jordan 5 “Black Grape” sneakers, injured Derrick Mitchell who then returned fire five times injuring two others on March 20, MBPD Detective Carlos Corvo reported, according to a warrant.

Brooks, 29, of Miami Gardens, ran away and he was a fugitive until Saturday, records show.

The U.S. Marshals detained Brooks and took him to the Miami Gardens Police Department before transferring him to the Miami Beach Police Department, according to the arrest form.

Brooks’s probation was from Sept. 1, 2020, to July 31, 2025, after he was convicted on Oct. 10, 2013, for armed robbery and carjacking on July 2011 in Miami-Dade County, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.

Records show Miami-Dade corrections officers booked Brooks shortly after 3 a.m., on Sunday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and they were holding him without bond on Monday afternoon. He was facing three counts of attempted murder.
