Casey Liening, a spokesperson with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, said Sean Alexis, 40, was taken into custody with assistance from the Plantation Police Department and booked into the Broward County Main Jail.

Jail record show Alexis is facing multiple charges, including hit-and-run involving serious bodily injury, hit-and-run involving property damage and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

The crash happened around 6:15 p.m. near West Broward Boulevard and Northwest 11th Avenue, when a vehicle struck a marked BSO patrol unit and fled the scene, investigators said.

They said witnesses told police that Alexis ran a red light before the collision.

Video from the scene showed heavy damage to the deputy’s vehicle, with the driver’s side crushed and airbags deployed.

Authorities said the male deputy was hospitalized after the crash.

They said his injuries were determined to be non-life threatening, though it was not immediately clear whether he remained in the hospital.

The suspect’s arrest photo and booking information weren’t immediately released.

The investigation is ongoing.
