Father who vanished on Saturday turns up dead in Broward canal, deputies report

TAMARAC, Fla. – When divers recovered a man’s body inside a Toyota sports utility vehicle that was submerged in a canal on Monday in Broward County, the relatives of Rondell C. Edwards rushed to the canal distraught.

The 28-year-old father had vanished on Saturday in a 2003 Toyota Highlander. On Tuesday, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies confirmed they had found his body in the canal near the intersection of North University Drive and Southgate Boulevard in Tamarac.

Anyssa Nichols, who was engaged to wed Edwards, described him as “a great man” and “an amazing father.”

The preliminary investigation revealed that, for “unknown reasons,” Edwards, left the roadway on Southgate Boulevard, entered the grass swale, and continued northbound toward the canal, according to deputies.

This is a developing story.
