Driver killed after going airborne into retention pond off Florida’s Turnpike in Tamarac

TAMARAC, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating after a body was pulled from a pond Friday morning off Florida’s Turnpike in Broward County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a silver sedan went into the water off the southbound lanes of the Turnpike at Commercial Boulevard in Tamarac.

Troopers said the driver, a male, went airborne over an embankment and crashed as he exited the Turnpike onto Commercial Boulevard, landing in a retention pond.

Divers went into the pond and recovered his body.

Authorities haven’t publicly identified the driver and said his next of kin had not yet been notified as of Friday afternoon.

They said the crash remained under investigation.
