HIALEAH, Fla. – A 27-year-old man appeared in Miami-Dade County court on Saturday afternoon to face charges after a woman reported she had dated him for about eight months when she feared for her life while he held her hostage overnight in Hialeah.

Attorney Vidal Marino Velis represented Kyle Castanaza, who appeared before Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Carmen Cabarga after he surrendered to police officers on Thursday for charges related to the domestic violence incident in July.

“My client after that alleged incident refused to continue seeing the young lady and broke off the relationship,” Marino Velis said.

According to an arrest form in the case, Castanaza hit the woman in the knees, grabbed her by the hair, kicked her in the stomach and arms, and hit her in the face while he held her hostage in her apartment. The woman reported escaping and asking a neighbor for help.

Castanaza is facing three felony charges: Kidnapping, false imprisonment, and witness tampering. He is also facing a misdemeanor charge of battery. Cabarga denied him bond on the kidnapping charge and ordered him to stay away from the victim.

Cabarga set his Castanaza’s bond for the other charges at $11,100. Miami-Dade court records show he has a pre-trial detention hearing set for 9 a.m., on April 1, and Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Christine Bandin was set to preside over the case.
