DAVIE, Fla. — One small business in Davie says a couple walked in and stole hundreds of dollars of products. The owner says they pretended to shop, but instead hid items in a purse and left.
Surveillance video from the Supplement Warehouse, located at 4643 S. University Drive, shows a woman scanning the store before slipping products into her purse.
Owner Brian Schafler says it’s not just about losing merchandise — it’s about someone taking advantage of his livelihood.
“The feeling we get is shock and frustration. Because I do work and all of our employees work hard every day,” Schafler said.
The theft happened on Friday morning while an employee’s back was turned, busy making protein shakes for customers.
“They were waiting for the right opportunity when the employee was distracted to circle around the store continuously,” Schafler explained.
In just a few minutes, the pair got away with hundreds of dollars in supplements. Surveillance shows the man stuffing products into his pants while the woman hid whatever she could in her purse.
Schafler says it’s a reminder of how quickly small shops can be targeted and how much damage a few minutes can do.
“It’s very hard for us to recoup these losses. It doesn’t just hurt me, it hurts our employees and the community that we are trying to serve,” he said.
