Fans of horror are in for another scare.
The sequel to “The Strangers: Chapter 1” is hitting theaters, and it stars “Riverdale’s” Madelaine Petsch, who takes survival and revenge into her own hands when a band of masked killers hunts her ferociously.
Local 10 sat down with Petsch ahead of the movie’s release.
In ‘The Strangers: Chapter 2,’ fear has a face — and she is relentless.
Petsch plays Maya, the lone survivor from the gruesome murders of Chapter 1, who must fight to stay alive when the killers return to finish the job.
For Petsch, stepping into the role wasn’t just physically demanding — it was emotionally intense.
“There’s no way to prepare for that, honestly,” she said. “It’s really just like rolling your sleeves up and being prepared to have high cortisol for five months straight. That’s really all it is.”
Ever the professional, Petsch said she approached the role ready to explore a new side of her craft, filming multiple installments of the franchise at once.
“I actually got offered this movie three weeks before I started shooting,” she said. “Honestly, it’s kind of a blessing because I think if I had time to psych myself out of it, I think I would have been like, I can’t do three movies at once. This is too intense. But I was just like, OK, yeah, wait, let’s go, let’s do it.”
Petsch also gave an update on her “Riverdale” co-stars.
“Yeah, of course we still talk all the time. We’re all still very close,” she said. “Cole came to my birthday party. I talk to Lili and Cami every day, Vanessa all the time. You can’t — seven years, eight years — you can’t, I can’t get rid of them if I wanted to.”
The actress said she feels she’s in a period of growth.
“I think I’m in a phase of healing and growth right now,” she said. “I just turned 31. I feel like really confident in finding my alignment. I think I know when things are aligned with me and when they’re not, and I’m really in a phase of like letting go and surrendering.”
“The Strangers: Chapter 2” is now playing in theaters.
