According to an arrest report from the Hialeah Police Department, officers were dispatched to the couple’s home in the 3500 block of West 89th Place just before 12:30 a.m. on May 28 in reference to a call about an unresponsive female.

When officers arrived, they made contact with the victim’s husband, Rafael Lujan, 37, who spoke with officers. His comments to officers were redacted from the publicly released report.

According to the report, Hialeah Fire Rescue personnel transported the victim to Palmetto General Hospital.

Police said officers found a small plastic bag containing a white powdery substance at the couple’s home, which tested positive for cocaine.

Hospital staff drew blood from the victim when she arrived, and her blood also tested positive for cocaine, authorities said.

According to the report, the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital on June 1.

The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office ruled her cause of death as acute combined drug toxicity from cocaine and ethanol.

According to the report, Lujan supplied his wife with the cocaine, which caused her death.

Police arrested him on charges of first-degree murder from cocaine and possession of cocaine.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Lujan was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Online jail records listed his bond as “to be set.”
