KEY WEST, Fla. — A former Key West building official has been indicted on several charges, along with a local contractor, following an extensive investigation, officials confirmed Tuesday.
The joint investigation, which was conducted by the Monroe County State Attorney’s Office and the FBI, focused on former Key West Chief Building Official Rajindar Ramsingh and local contractor Max Yael Heller.
According to the indictments, Ramsingh and Heller conspired to manipulate official city records “to the detriment to the city of Key West” while also providing illegal advantages to several housing entities, as well as multiple property owners.
“This case underscores the importance of transparency, honesty, and accountability in public office,” said State Attorney Dennis Ward in an official release. “When a public official abuses their position for personal or financial gain, it erodes the community’s faith in government. Our office, working closely with the FBI, will continue to ensure that those entrusted with public responsibilities uphold the law — not violate it.”
Officials said Ramsingh and Heller were each charged with four counts of conspiracy to commit official misconduct.
Ramsingh is also facing four additional counts of official misconduct, officials said.
