Anyone who needed it, he made sure they got it, and didn’t take a dime from them, being the great doctor, he was.

That was about a century ago.

Now, on Sunday, he was canonized as the first Venezuelan saint, along with one other non, Mother Carmen Rendiles Martínez.

And now, Saint Jose Fernandez’s niece four times removed asked for healing during his canonization as she fights breast cancer.

Father Omar Ayubi, who blessed the murals of Saint Jose Fernandez at St. Katherine Drexel Parish in Weston during his canonization, said it’s not a coincidence the canonization of Venezuelan saints comes in such a time of need for their country.

“The fact that a day like today, two Venezuelans were made saints for first time ever, they never had a saint before,” he said. “And it’s happening when all these other things are happening, I don’t think that’s a mere coincidence. The hand of the lord is there to restore faith peace people.”
