Deputies responded to the area of Southwest 191st Lane in Cutler Bay around 8 p.m. after reports of a shooting involving a teenager.

Sunday morning report:

Deputies search for gunman after teen shot in southwest Miami-Dade

According to investigators, the teenager was walking in the neighborhood when he was shot in the right hand.

Neighbors report hearing more than three-dozen gunshots before first responders arrived.

“Maybe around 30 to 40 gunshots continuously, and then suddenly it stopped,” said resident Yunior Diaz.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition, officials said.

One man who works for a local anti-gun violence organization says shootings in this neighborhood are a common problem, and that the teen victim was not the intended target.

“This neighborhood called the square is known gun violence,” said Darrell Collins. “And I don’t know how they’re gonna stop it but there was an innocent bystander.”

No arrests have been made, and detectives said there are currently no leads in the case. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.

Those with information can contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
