MIAMI — Former NFL player Antonio Brown is back in the United States to stand trial for a shooting that occurred in Miami nearly six months ago.
Police confirmed Brown, 37, was extradited from Dubai but have not said where he is currently being held.
He was taken into custody at Newark Airport in Essex County, New Jersey and is expected to be brought to South Florida, but authorities have not provided any specifics on what that will occur.
When the warrant for his arrest was issued back in June, police said Brown was believed to be overseas, but did not specify where.
After the warrant was issued, Brown hired an attorney who was able to secure a bond of $10,000 that included house arrest for, but Brown did not return to South Florida.
The incident in question happened around 3 a.m. on May 17 in the area of 221 NE 67th St.
Police said they responded to the scene after receiving an alert from the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system, but no arrests were made at the time and no injuries were reported after officers questioned several individuals who were there.
In video posted to social media, Brown is seen involved in a fight during the boxing event, which was hosted by popular streamer Adin Ross.
Brown is seen in the footage fighting with several people and apparently holding a black pistol while chasing someone. Gunshots can be heard off-camera moments later.
According to an arrest warrant, Brown was targeting Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, who allegedly engaged in a fight with Brown.
Security guards intervened, but Brown was allegedly seen in video footage gabbing a gun from one of the security members.
Police said Brown, who was seen in video in handcuffs with his arms behind his back, was not arrested that night because they could not locate a victim.
Shortly after the incident, Brown posted on social media, claiming he was “jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me.”
“Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED,” he wrote.
