SURFSIDE, Fla. — Four people were hospitalized Thursday night after a driver crashed into multiple parked cars and ended up on a sidewalk in a busy Surfside shopping and dining area, authorities said.
The crash happened around 9:57 p.m. near 95th Street and Collins Avenue, close to the Bell Harbor shops, an area crowded with restaurants and pedestrians.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said five units responded to the scene. Two adults were taken by ground transport to a nearby trauma center, while two others were taken to a local hospital.
According to Surfside police, the driver was reportedly driving recklessly and ran a red light before hitting several parked vehicles.
Video from the scene shows stunned bystanders rushing to help the injured. Employees at nearby businesses said it was fortunate more people weren’t hurt given how crowded the streets were.
“My first reaction was to see if the store and the people were OK,” one employee told Local 10 News. “It was definitely crazy, thank God everybody was OK.”
Authorities have not yet released further details about the driver or what led to the crash.
